What is the difference between an Issuer Sponsored and a Broker Sponsored Shareholding?

Chess holders have entered into an agreement with a Broker who will buy and sell their shares for them. They will have one HIN (holder identification number) and all their securities are registered under this number. The broker will charge fees according to the level of service they provide. Broker sponsored holdings begin with an X.

Issuer Sponsored on the other hand are securities by an issuer that are held in uncertificated form without the holder entering into a sponsorship agreement with a Broker. Every holding has a different number (SRN - shareholder identification number). Issuer sponsored holdings begin with an I.

The share registry will process off-market transfers. No stamp duty is payable.

Who can participate in Off-Market Share Transfers?

Only Issuer Sponsored sellers can participate in off-market share transfers. If the seller is Broker Sponsored, the transaction needs to be done through their broker.
Forms are available through the Registry website link. If unsure on any issue, advice is available through the Computershare call centre on 1800 684 187.
